President Loinaz Presents UIA Medals to Jean-Paul Delevoye and Luis Alberto Lacalle Herrera

On June 3rd UIA President Miguel Loinaz presented medals to Luis Alberto Lacalle Herrera, former President of the Republic of Uruguay, as well as Jean-Paul Delevoye, President of the French Economic, Social and Environmental Council.

In his speeches, the President of the UIA expressed his wish to recognise the work of institutions and individuals working to establish and protect the rule of law around the world.

In his first speech, Miguel Loinaz addressed Jean-Paul Delevoye in recognition of his exceptional progress, commenting that “Through [his] mandates and [his] institutional functions” he was able to “get closer to us as lawyers and our fundamental mission of building and defending the rule of law”.

In thanking Miguel Loinaz and the UIA, Jean-Paul Delevoye emphasised the importance of legal professionals understanding societies and democracy and expressed his desire to go to Valencia for the annual UIA Congress.

Mr. Loinaz went on to warmly address Luis Alberto Lacalle Herrera, his fellow compatriot, and spoke of his “outstanding success” in his career as an attorney, which emerged even before his role as a politician was highlighted. In honouring M. Lacalle Herrera, Miguel Loinaz also honoured the man who “strengthened Uruguayan democracy, and developed the economy of the smallest State in Latin America”.

After the medal of honour ceremony President of the Paris Bar Pierre-Olivier Sur, who hosted the ceremony in the Palace of Justice, ended the event with a short speech.
