The UIA and the Siracusa International Institute sign a Memorandum of collaboration

On April 19, the UIA represented by its President Laurence Bory and the Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights (SII) represented by its President Jean-François Thony, signed a Memorandum of collaboration related to defence rights, international criminal law, the rule of law, European Union law and human rights.

This collaboration includes scientific and cultural activities, training courses and seminars, and skills strengthening that both organizations could set up together or independently.

The Siracusa Institute training course on Fundamentals on Defence Rights before International Courts is the first event that benefits this collaboration. It will be held on May 15 and 19. Another training course is planned on July 17 and 19 on Cases related to Financial Crime, Money Laundering, and Terrorism Financing: Patterns and Legal Issues.  

These training courses are meant to strengthen defence lawyers’ ability to assist clients in international and national Courts. They also develop lawyers’ knowledge of the international context on criminal justice.

A sample group of practitioners and jurists internationally renowned will ensure the high quality of the training courses and debates.

The Memorandum of collaboration also includes all activities helping the empowerment of lawyers and their bar associations, a topic that really matters to the UIA.
