The UIA Condemns the Attack on French Newspaper Charlie Hebdo

The Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA - International Association of Lawyers) is deeply outraged by the attack on the editorial board of the newspaper Charlie Hebdo in France.

The primary mission of the UIA is to defend the rule of law. The defense of public liberty requires the vigilance and action of journalists as well as of lawyers, and the UIA unequivocally condemns this attack on the freedom of expression --- an essential pillar of democracy and the rule of law.

The UIA expresses its firm solidarity and support to the families of the victims, to the staff of Charlie Hebdo, and to the entire journalistic community.
