I am glad to be able to present the second issue of our newsletter to you. I have received a few comments on the first issue, almost all positive. Nevertheless, I urge everybody to provide their input, so that we can constantly improve this form of communication.
Family Law Commission Update

The mid-year congress of the Family and Private Client commissions took place on June 6 at the historic offices of Farrer & Co LLP in London. The event saw UIA members attending from over 9 different countries.
Overview of the Legal Profession in India

India has a unified bar with over 1.4 million practising advocates nationwide. All of its members are entitled to practise anywhere in the country and to appear in all courts. The only exception is the Supreme Court of India where the right of the advocates to ‘act’ for the litigants is restricted to Advocates-on-Record. The estimated total value of the legal market as of 2010 was approximately USD 1.25 billion, which will invariably increase with the participation of the foreign law firms.
UIA Commission of the Year Award

This year the UIA shall deliver for the second time in its history the 2014 UIA Commission of the Year Award that was launched last year. This Award is delivered annually to the UIA Commission that distinguishes itself for the excellent work performed during the past year (from the last congress to the closing of the subsequent one).
