UIA/ABA Women’s Breakfast in New York
The UIA women’s network organized, conjointly with the ABA, the fourth instance of a women’s breakfast at New York, on May 29 at the New York City Bar.
During this women’s meeting, Gabrielle M. BUCKLEY and Lisa J. SAVITT, respectively Chair and Vice-chair of the section of international law presented the actions of the ABA.
The network also had the immense honour of receiving Yasmeen HASSAN, Director of Equality Now, an association whose consistent mission, since 1992, has been to identify the legal rules that harm women’s rights and are discriminatory, and also to help the women who have suffered from violence and who were victims of trafficking.
The association puts in place information campaigns and fights for the strengthening of legal norms linked to women and adolescents.
The association relies on local jurists/lawyers to identify discriminatory legislation and handle legal action. Yasmeen HASSAN raised awareness among the women present, leading them to reflect on what would have to be modified in legal rules to promote equality.
The exchanges between the participants were enhanced and naturally punctuated with presentations of the activities of the women present so as to develop exchanges between women to the maximum.
