Your UIA membership 2016

A few days ago, you received an email concerning the renewal of your UIA membership. 

Did you notice it? 
 

Two innovations this year:

-  In 2015, the UIA reevaluated the grid used for determining its membership fees. The UIA had been using the World Bank list, which bases its calculations mainly on the criteria of gross national income (GNI) per capita. In order to meet the concerns of members and to take account of remarks made during recent general assemblies, the UIA decided to use the Human Development Index (HDI) published by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1990, which ranks the world's countries according to their level of human development. The IDH is a composite statistic of life expectancy, education, and income per capita indicators. This index has been used by the UIA since 1 January 2016 to determine the categories of countries and therefore the membership fees.

-  In September 2015, the UIA created the UIA Institute for the Rule of Law (UIA-IROL). This UIA-IROL increases the effectiveness and improves the coordination of all the UIA’s work to defend the Rule of Law, to increase respect for human rights and the rights of the defence, as well as the legal profession and its fundamental principles. This year, if you choose to make your €10 traditional contribution, you will donate to UIA-IROL and all its human rights and rule of law activities.
